The Woodsman 02:41
the shadow of my house's chimney reaches to the trees that sit and sway all through the day waiting for the evening when the shadow and the roots meet tenderly and i watch this from my window that is sat above the ground and some fifteen feet below i hear the soft unhurried sound of the birds and the beasts and the leaves and i look and i see and i believe now there's the sun that crawls up through the leaves at least once every day then falls back down without a sound in the prettiest of ways and there is red and there is violet and there is me i wanna sleep in the fields i see, i see them all around so i can dust the frost off of myself as i lift up off the ground as the sun stabs me sweetly with his beams and i stand and i breathe and i scream
2.
Control 02:12
oh i don't feel that i belong and i know that i've been here before when will we ever go home oh when will i have control? i won't so i'll wade down the river where we all began cells choked with cinder and sin and then emerge again
3.
Fakers 03:21
the best's been done and the rest is won in lottery pools or behind a gun til there's nothing left to want all the years you thought you wasted all the days you can't replace they will never be enough misplaced hope and youth rebelling always screaming, always yelling i'm not having any fun all of your friends that you pushed away in a desperate attempt of a deserved escape all these years later i can finally see what you were doing in the small town shitstorm that swallowed us all we worked and we earned and we answered the call and when no one was left, there was no point at all in pursuing we scribbled the slogans and called out the names and hoped that no one would notice the way we cried and we lied cause we were afraid of the feeling it took us too long to discover the truth that most try to do the best they can do and when there's nothing left for you to hold to there is healing no, you're not real you're just mean and falling down is what it seems life is life at sixteen time goes by i'm still me who will be the fakers when the fakers are the last to go? and who will tell the fakers they are faking when the new ones show? you're not real you're just mean falling down is what it seems life is life at thirty time goes by i'm still me
4.
Bravery 02:11
i'm a bottle in a storm, baby i don't mean the other way around look at me and i can see i'm not the way i thought i'd be until then i will wait to break or drown let me drown, let me drown all that i can do is break or drown let me drown, let me all that i can do is break or drown the game is rigged and here's the thing, baby we are all still playing to win if you all are having fun i guess that it's my time to run to all those in the alleys who hold out their hands and my friends in the desert who haven't got out yet from the ancient islands distant to the rooftops of home let me know when you too have run i cannot explain away bravery i am just a vessel to be filled
5.
The Flood 03:14
don't go waiting for me, i'm gone the same day that levee done broke i rode that river in an old tin boat and the rain kept splashing mean and cold i saw the water rise beyond the road an oak branch breaking and a baby's wail an old man's hands on a wooden pail and i know it's time to go, to go i swear to jesus, no this time i mean it i will not last very long there's a pain that does seep from the base of my feet into every last muscle and bone the poison is coursing i don't know how much longer i can hold on i swear to jesus, no this time i mean it i will not sleep till it's gone deep in the eve 'neath the willow trees i drank where two streams meet below and oh you should see where the leaves dip beneath the water that shimmers along but you won't believe all the evils that keep in the sparkling clear and cold the poison is coursing i don't know how much longer i can hold on
6.
The Reins 02:38
get away away away from here they filled your head with all the words you wanted to hear so run, be gone, and flee the land and don't tell nobody cause nobody will understand no don't tell nobody cause nobody will understand this life of mine is so far away i did the things i thought i should that's all i can say oh the beasts, the beasts that we used to be riding blind into the night where no one could see yeah i was riding blind into the night with no one head em up now, don't let hold of the reins
7.
Rise 02:45
where will we be running when the day comes? will we see the lights shine ahead? or will they rise upon our backs and find us chasing our own shadows across the land? tattered nets and rusty nets behind us hidden teeth are waiting with the dawn fear enough to turn us round in darkness and sap the strength we need to move on i will rise along the way on regret is no remedy and time's not wasted just gone so move on
